January/March 2009
Animals of all kinds have been in my life. I have always enjoyed an enormous passion for horses. When I was 5 years old I wandered over to the neighbor’s fields, once there I climbed aboard a Percheron mare that was resting by the fence line.
That day changed my life forever. That was long ago. To some it would be a lifetime ago. To me it was yesterday, tomorrow all rolled up in one. I have learned much from animals, horses in particular. One never gives back what we as humans receive from our furry friends. Try as I might they are always one up on me. I give them housing, food and a kind word. They in return give so much while taking over my soul!
My QH’s are adorable, they are gentle and so proud, slow in their movements yet so wise in their actions. They stand there in the early morning light, barely making a noise. They stand as though they are protecting the world, from whom, probably protecting us from ourselves. They guard over the foals, their field companions, themselves. They live in the moment always first to take the time to enjoy a rest in the sun.
When I was in southern Ontario last spring I got to see “minis in action”.
I knew right then that they had to become part of my life. Upon arriving home I shared my excitement with Myra my partner. The first minis I acquired were a lovely black team. Of course others followed those two boys home. Since then I have met wonderful people, some of them breeders that I will always be thankful to. I have started down a road that will be a long pleasant journey. Each season I will write about the season past. The joys of farm ownership and some joys of family life will be told in short stories.
OF COURSE MANY HORSE STORIES WILL BE TOLD !
I would like to thank Edna, Faye, Suzanne, Kerstin, Tammy, Tracy, and Doug & Caroline for your lovely minis.
I would like to thank Arlene and John, Gail, Trudy and Darci for some insight into the mini industry.
I would like to say thank you to Tracy Conrad and Doug Savage for the use of their photos.
An extra special “thank you” goes out to Tracy and her family of Country Lane Miniatures.
Check back in April 2009 for more stable news…..
